Bell Mobility Calling Features

Placing and receiving calls

Placing calls

Your cellular phone takes on the dialing pattern of its current location.  That means each call will be billed depending on where you are when you make it.  For example, if you are a Toronto subscriber and you’re visiting Ottawa, you will dial the 7-digit number only, without the area code, to call numbers in Ottawa.  Any Ottawa numbers you phone will be billed as local calls and you will be charged for airtime only.  However, any calls you make to Toronto numbers will be long distance.  You’ll dial 11 digits (1+ area code + number) and you’ll be billed for airtime, plus appropriate long distance charges.

 From Metropolitan Service Areas

To make a local call, simply dial the 7-digit number within any Bell Mobility cellular metropolitan service area.  In Toronto, Montreal and surrounding areas, you may also be required to dial the area code to reach some local numbers due to new local dialing patterns.

  • Dial the desired number; press the “Send or Talk” button (This appears in green on most cellular phones).

  • Your call will go through just like any regular call.  To terminate the call, press “End”.

  • Press “CLR” to remove the dialed number from your cellular phone’s display.

From Corridor Service Areas

Corridor service areas can be defined as highway service areas between two cities.  They would be small towns or rural areas.  If you’re placing a local call and you are interrupted by a recorded message telling you that you’re in a corridor service area, you must dial all 11 digits to complete the call.  Even though this is the long distance calling format, the call may be toll-free, depending on where you are calling.

  • Dial 1 + area code+ number.  Press the “Send or Talk” button.

  • To terminate the call, press “End”.  Press “CLR” to remove the dialed number from your phone’s display.

Call Forwarding

This feature allows you to redirect your calls to another number, such as your home or office.

To Activate:     Dial *72 & Number (10 digit) of the phone you are forwarding to.

  • *If you are inside a Metropolitan Service Area and forwarding your calls to a number within the Bell Canada calling area, dial the 10 digit   number you want your calls routed to.

  • If you are inside a Metropolitan Service Area and forwarding your calls to a number outside that MSA, dial 1+ 10-digit number you want your calls routed to.

  • If you are in a Corridor area dial 1 + 10 digit number you want your calls routed to.

  • Press the “Send or Talk” button.  Wait for the confirmation tone.

To Deactivate:   Dial *720 and press the “Send or Talk” button.  You will receive a tone confirming that the feature has been deactivated.

Call Waiting

If you are on the phone, this feature will notify you when a second call comes in for you.  You may then answer the new call, without disconnecting the first.

  • Your second call will be signaled by a fast two-beep tone

  • To answer the second call, press the “send or talk” button.  This puts your first call on hold and connects you with your second call.

  • You can alternate between callers as often as you wish, by repeatedly pressing “send or talk”.

  • Do not press “END” to terminate one call as this will terminate both calls.  Ask the calling party to hang up and your contact with the remaining caller will be resumed.

Three Way Calling  (Conference Calling)

Allows you to add a third party to an existing call, enabling you to hold meetings while you’re on the move.

  • Dial the first number, then press the “send or talk” button.  Your first call is now in progress.  Wait until the first party answers.

  • Press “send or talk” to place the first call on hold.  Wait for the dial tone.  Dial the second number, press the ‘send or talk” button.

  • To disconnect the second party, press the “send or talk” button.  Press, “end” to terminate both calls.
